White Sox Open Exhibition Season With Large Egg

That said, I guess I'm a little disappointed in the White Sox 12-3 loss to the Anaheim, Azuza and Cookamonga Angels yesterday.
I think it's because it was the first game since October 6th and the White Sox got slapped around. Some thoughts:
- Clayton Richard pitched two scoreless innings. That's a big confidence booster for him early in the spring. Let's see if he can keep it up. If he does, he's your number five starter if Jose Contreras or Bartolo Colon can't answer the bell in April.
- Octavio Dotel got smacked around pretty good. I don't worry about him. He's a veteran and he'll be ready when the season starts. Besides, he's going to give you an ulcer before the end of the season.
- Adam Russell and Ehren Wasserman (PI) also had below average outings. These guys need to pitch with some urgency this spring if they expect to make the big league roster.
- I don't know who Brad Salmon is, but I think the next time we see his name it will be followed by the words "reassigned to the minor league camp" or "was released."
- Jayson Nix, whose been the forgotten man in the discussions about second base (lots of talk about Getz and Lillibridge) went 2 for 2.
- A.J. Pierzynski picked up two hits yesterday. Jerry Owens had a hit with a leadoff swinging bunt. In fact, the Sox had two on and nobody out in the first, but Carlos Quentin, Jim Thome and Jermaine Dye couldn't convert. Sounds a lot like last May, doesn't it? The Sox left eight men on base all day.
- Tyler Flowers made an error and struck out twice. I think we are starting to see why Kenny says you won't see the kid until next year.
- Josh Fields made no errors and had a hit. So far, so good.
