Ozzie: Getz His Man
In what was akin to a Chicago election, grinder Chris Getz has been declared the winner in the second base sweepstakes, ending that competition. The good news is that Jayson Nix emerged as a competitor in this competition and when healthy, will serve as an able backup. At this point, it appears that Brett Lillibridge will get the Juan Uribe/Pablo Ozuna backup slot, able to play second, short and center and Wilson Betemit will serve as backup at third, first and occasionally second and possibly a corner outfield slot.
Camp phenom Gordon Beckham, who appears to have hit a wall in the last couple of days, will start the season in Charlotte. I find it laughable that in a Tribune poll, 30% of the respondents were ready to see Beckham now. Relax, kis, his time will come.
In other position news, it appears Clayton Richard has won the fifth starter competition from Jeff Marquez, although that is a temporary prize until Bartolo Colon is ready to pitch. Colon looked decent in his last outing and will throw in a minor league game on Wednesday. It is highly doubtful he will break camp with the club, but rather be left behind in Arizona to continue to gain arm strength and work on his location.

Lightning Round
- Several of the Sox pitchers looked awful yesterday. Mark Buehrle got lit up for eight hits and eight runs, Jack Egbert four hits and a run, Scott Linebrink two hits and three runs, Randy Williams three hits and a run. Both Lance Broadway and Mike MacUseless escaped any damage.
- I wonder if journeyman pitcher Randy Williams has a actual chance to make the team in the bullpen. He's given up only one run in nine innings pitched thus far during the spring. This would be that final bullpen slot which is being contested by all the young dudes including Aaron Poreda, Jack Egbert, Ehren Wasserman (PI), Lance Broadway and Adam Russell.
- All quiet on the centerfield front. Personally, I think Kenny is quietly shopping Owens to get something for him rather than lose him to waivers. Unfortunately, the best off so far has come from an Independent league team and all they've offered is two bags of gently used baseballs.
- Josh Fields has a LONG way to go defensively. No one will be forgetting Joe Crede anytime soon.
- Anyone concerned about the number of blowouts this teasm has been on the south end of? I know it's spring training and all, but it does make you think a little, doesn't it?
- I watched "30 Clubs in 30 days", White Sox edition last night on MLB TV. If you are a level two or above Sox fan, you already knew all the stuff they talked about. There was very little depth of discussion (Jose Contreras' injury form last year was never specifically identified, nor was the fact that his being back now is a miracle.) Interviews included Buehrle, AJ, Q, John Danks, Buzz Lightyear, The Chairman and Ozzie. The best part of the show comes near the end where they give you a montage of your team's history. I kept playing the Tivo back and fourth to John Rooney saying "that's a world series winner." For you younger fans, some of the stuff from the 80's is great, especially Julio Cruz crossing the plate against Seattle for the first ever Sox division title and the only title won in the clown costumes.
