White Sox Have Questions With A Week To Go

It's getting down to the final week of spring training and the questions continue to abound for the Chicago White Sox:
  • Let's assume for the sake of argument that Bartolo Colon and Jose Contreras will start the season on the major league roster. With that said, and the fact that gives the Sox nine pitchers (five starters and four locks in the bullpen), the assumption is they will carry twelve pitchers.  The three open slots are being contested by Clayton Richard (who was horrible vs. the Cubs Friday) Jeff Marquez, Randy Williams, Jack Egbert, D.J. Corrasco and Lance Broadway.  Me personally?  I like Marquez, Egbert and Williams.  Odds of me getting my way?  Slim and none as reality probably will dictate Richard, Marquez and Corrasco.
  • The center field job is looking more like a race between Dewayne Wise and Brian Anderson.  Odd man out?  Jerry Owens.  But with no options left,  is Kenny Williams ready to give up on Owens or take his chances with waivers.  I don't think so.  I may be inclined to believe that Anderson is being shown for trade purposes, but he is a right handed bat (Wise and Owens are lefties) and he is the best defensive outfielder on the team.
  • If Jayson Nix starts the season on the DL, your middle infielders will be Chris Getz, Alexi Ramirez,Brett Lillibridge and Wilson Betemit.  The corners will be manned by Paul Konerko and Josh Fields.
  • The left side of the Sox infield will drive Mark Buehrle nuts this year with as many ground balls and bad throws as they are going to make.
  • For those of you that watched the game Saturday on WGN, the pinch runner for Jim Thome was Joe Persichina (referred to by Hawk as #89)
