Finding Diamonds in a Load of Crap
Yeah, I know. 1-3. Can't hit. Ya, ya, ya , ya. It's only four games, kids and everyone needs to get a grip. To compete for a divisional title, you need to win 12 out of every twenty games played. Let me know where they are after forty games and then we can panic together if necessary.
Some positives to come out of last night's debacle:
Some positives to come out of last night's debacle:
- Home runs by Paulie and Q.
- Here's what I love about Chris Getz. In the fourth inning, he gets down in the count 0-2, battles his way back to 3-2 and then singles. Then, he steals second. THAT'S WHAT LEADOFF MEN DO. I like Getz/Fields 1-2 for now. I think it will work if Ozzie lets it. By the way kids, you heard Getz/Fields here first.
- Jose had a rough night, but he made it through five innings and left the game with his team in position to win. Isn't that all you can ask of your starters? He'll probably only get better.
- R.A. Dickey gets last nights "I'd rather be lucky than good award.
- Call it dumb luck, but I dozed off in the bottom of the sixth and missed most of the top of the seventh, waking up with the Sox trailing 11-3.
- White Sox fans got a taste of what Red Sox fans must have felt like in 1981 when Pudge homered against them in his first game in an ememy uniform. Of course, Fisk's homer won the game where Crede's homer just gave them a lead. So, it could have been worse.
- Can we end the MacUseless experiment once and for all? Please?
- Clayton Richard is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are going to get.
- There were a couple of times last night that you got to see the difference a fast outfield (Twins) makes over a slow outfield (White Sox). There were a couple of gappers last night the Twinkies got to and the Sox couldn't get to. Getting to those balls saves your pitchers pitches and helps you win games. Not getting to them adds to pitch counts, forces pitchers out early and gives guys like MacUseless opportunities to come in and douse the fire with gasoline.
