Anderson Now Center of Interest

In what is truly a sad moment, Wise banged up his right shoulder yesterday and will be out for anywhere between 5-8 weeks. That injury prompted White Sox General Manager Kenny Williams to pick up the phone and call for Owens. The moment is sad because Wise is 31 year-old minor league veteran who
Replacing Wise in center field will be Brian Anderson who will get what will be his one last chance to prove picking him in the first round was not a wasted draft pick. No doubt the kid can play center, but he's never been able to hit consistently at the big league level. Owens, who is still in manager Ozzie Guillen's doghouse, will be used primarily as a pinch runner and occasional spot starter. At least, that's what we're hearing right now.
Once again, Owens is out of options, so if he eventually re-ticketed for Charlotte, he'll have to clear waivers, which means the Sox risk losing him. We'll see how it all plays out, but for right now, ten days after he was removed from the roster, he's back with the team.
Lightning Round
- If losing Wise and having Chris Getz out as a precautionary move after getting hit by a pitch on Sunday, the Sox have another huge hurdle to overcome this afternoon against the Detroit Tigers: The worst umpiring crew in baseball. It's a miracle that Ozzie survived a game with Phil Cuzzi behind
home plate (I thought Ozzie was going to get tossed in the fifth
inning). This afternoon, Ed Hicox takes his turn and tomorrow Jerry
Crawford, who is awful as well is at home. Truth be told, a crew made of up of Stevie Wonder, Jose Feliciano, Tom Sullivan and Ronnie Milsap would be an improvement over these guys.
- The Sox win yesterday came as
PinkGavin Floyd walked seven and was flat most of the afternoon. Good teams win even when their starters struggle. Remember that. - Congrats to Jermaine Dye and Paul Konerko for making history.
