I'm So Bored I Watched The NBA

I don't get bored really often, but when I do, it's pretty mind numbing..  Last night, with the White Sox and Brewers off, there was nothing to watch.  The ESPN baseball game was rained out and I really wasn't up to watching the epic struggle between a team from New York versus a team from Washington, even if Alex Ovechkin is one of the top players in the NHL.

The Blackhawks game was scheduled for 8:30 which is right about my bedtime and I had planned on listening to it on the radio as I fell asleep.

How bored did I get? I watched a Bulls game for the first time in five or six years.  Not bad.  I like some of these young guns.  I did remember thinking two things.  The first was that Paul Pierce only had a couple of points at halftime for Boston. Surely that wasn't going to last (it didn't.)

The second one was if Vinny DelNegro is supposed to be such an awful coach, how could the Bulls possibly be staying on the floor with these guys? (Garnett or no Garnett.)  The Bulls looked like a team that plays hard and plays with enthusiasm, although I think they lack serious defensive skills.  That may be the big difference between these guys and the champs from the 90's: Everyone on those teams, including Jordan and Pippen could play awesome defense.  I wonder if anyone plays defense anymore in the NBA.

So, the question I have is are these Bulls, with Derek Rose, in the Doug Collins-Michael Jordan phase?  In other words, are they a coach and a couple of role players from becoming an elite team?  I know Rose is no Jordan, but he is good and when you add Noah and Ben Gordon and a healthy Luol Deng, these guys seem to be much better than the .500 team they were during the regular season.

Maybe that's why John Paxson has ulcers.

If the Sox and Brewers get rained out tonight (I'd bet on it), I may be forced to (gasp) find a book.
