Operator? Can You Help Me Lose This Game? White Sox Phone In Loss To Orioles

Some thoughts on the White Sox 6-2 loss last night in Baltimore:

  • I love the way Chris Getz works the count.  He went down 0-2, worked it back to 2-2 and then singled to lead off the game last night.  Unfortunately, Josh Fields was too busy striking out to advance him.  Personally, I'd like to Fields bunt more.
  • How can you make a guy (Adam Eaton) with an 11+ ERA look like a Cy Young winner with the offense you have?
  • The first sign that the Sox were in trouble last night was Jermaine Dye's errant cutoff throw to Chris Getz in the first inning.  Dye threw it sidearm and off balance, handcuffing Getz when it short armed him.  This is basic baseball, guys.  You make that throw, you save a run and maybe change the game.
  • Bartolo Colon couldn't make the ball go anywhere he wanted it to go last night.  Danger Will Robinson.
  • I thought the Sox were patient with Eaton the first time around, but as it became apparent they weren't going to win this game, they started swinging from their heels.
  • I wish people would get off Alexi Ramirez's back.  He was terrible last April, too.  It's not like the Sox are five games behind right now.  He'll be fine, just leave him alone and quit trying to hand other players his job.
  • Injury to insult was added when Carlos Quentin was hit in his rehabbed left hand by a Jim Johnson pitch.  I don't know what was scarier, Quentin getting hit or Jerry Owens in left field.
  • After winning 8-2 Wednesday night, I thought the Sox would come out and play inspired baseball last night.  I think they phoned it in.  I know it was the last game a long road trip, but that's no excuse.  And tonight, Toronto will make Baltimore look like a Triple A team.
