Kansas City Shows Its' Zack

Take Alexi Ramirez in the third. Greinke threw a pitch inside and Ramirez did a neat little limbo deal to get out of the way. The next pitch, Greinke put in on the inside corner and Alexi moved back out of the way, even though the pitch was clearly a strike. Then, he fanned. Greinke had accomplished his goal of spooking the Cuban Missile. Major League hitters should never be spooked.
The Sox continue to lose games to injury with Jermaine Dye and Josh Fields both sitting out.
Bartolo Colon had one rough inning yesterday, but otherwise pitched okay. He, like John Danks the night before got no run support from his teammates. It's going to get in these pitchers heads that they have to be perfect because they can't count on their offense. That's usually the point when your pitching goes South. If pitchers have to worry about offense or defense while they are on the mound, they usually try to make perfect pitches which often result in mistakes.
Let's hope the Sox score early and often tonight and give
Some other things to address this morning:
- I guess Joe Cowley is trying to throw Greg Walker under the bus again. Ozzie says "not so fast. By the way, Gary Ward was the Sox hitting coach once before and people couldn't wait to get rid of him. What makes you think a second helping would have different results?
- I agree with Ozzie on not getting into a bean ball war with Texas and here's why: Mike Maddux, the new Rangers pitching coach is a big proponent of pitching inside on a guys hands. It's nothing personal, it's a way to back guys off the plate and keep them honest. He's not throwing at them, he's pitching inside. There is a difference and Ozzie is a smart enough baseball man to know this.
- Jayson Nix looked human last night. At least he's more dependable with a glove than Wilson Bettemit. I think if the Sox regress to 2007 levels, Bettemit may be the first guy traded for magic beans.
- The conversation on Jose Contreras is getting louder. Truth is, if his team staked him to a five run lead, could he hold it? Maybe they should try it sometime.
- Memo to Ozzie: If Jermaine is going to sit, why not flip-flop Q and Pods. Put Pods in left and Q in right. Also, hit Nix first and Getz second. Trust me on this stuff, Ozzie. I've never steered you wrong.
- The Sox Aaron Poreda has pitched a no-no for Birmingham kinda sorta. It was a five inning, rain shortened deal, but a no hitter just the same. The cries for Poreda may get as loud as those for Gordon Beckham. Yikes!
