2009 Sox Far From Offensive

I've been away from the computer for the last couple of days, so let's catch up:

  • I'm getting my patience tested by the White Sox lack of offense.  The bottom line is, you could have the greatest pitching on the planet, but if you can't score runs, you are screwed.  Friday night, Jose Contreras pitched poorly, but just think if the Sox would have answered the Rangers three spot with three of their own and at least made a game of it.  It's not the pitching, people, it's the offense.  (South Side Sox)
  • The two Texas pitchers the Sox lost to over the weekend were not Nolan Ryan and Randy Johnson, but the Sox made them look like that.
  • I feel bad about Jose Contreras, but I also feel that enough is enough.  Obviously, they want to send him to Charlotte to work on his fork ball, which, for whatever reason, he can't throw anymore.  I wonder what happens if he doesn't clear waivers.  Seriously, the possibility exists.  Someone could claim him, let him throw on the side for a couple of weeks and then let him contribute to their effort.  I don't know how many Sox fans would feel bad about that, but I would.  I think there is still some gas left in his tank.
  • I agree 100% with Ranger Ronge's comments Saturday afternoon that the Sox search for in house help in the pitching department is almost a fruitless search.  There are few guys at Charlotte who haven't had a chance or don't deserve one and Aaron Poreda isn't ready yet.
  • Clayton Richard hasn't really impressed anyone this year and I find his inconsistency maddening.  Unfortunately, he's what the Sox have to take over in the rotation.  This hurts the long guys who will be called on at least until Richard gets stretched out.  Unfortunately, Richard has been known for having first inning implosions, so what then?
  • At least when the Sox lose Ozzie has interesting things to say.  BTW, I don't know who writes the headlines at the Sun-Times but the story sure wasn't worth the hype.
  • Carl Pavano has been a punching bag all season.  Let's see if the Sox make him look like Anthony Young instead of Cy Young. Pink Gavin Floyd, who has struggled his last few times out, takes the rock for the Sox.
  • In what some may consider ironic, Hawk Harrelson went off the deep end Saturday night when Bobby Jenks threw behind Ian Kinsler in the top of the ninth inning.  Hawk insisted home plate umpire Lance Barksdale's warning was an over reaction, that in that situation, there was absolutely no way Jenks wasn't intending to throw behind Kinsler.  In fact, I think Hawk said something about how Barksdale needed to learn the game of baseball.  Even Steve Stone chimed in. Upon further review, Barksdale had it right.  Both Hawk and Stoney were handed towels to remove the egg from their faces.
