If The White Sox Aren't Driving You Nuts Then You Are Not Paying Attention

It has been said that the definition of insanity is to repeat the same thing over and over again in an attempt to gain different results.

I have been insanely optimistic thus far about the 2009 White Sox.  I kept thinking, they can't be this bad.  They have too much offense.  Gavin Floyd will come around.  John Danks will come around.  It's no big deal, it's just a slow start.  They are in a weak division.  They can always catch up.

I hereby lift my head out of the sand.

These White Sox may be every bit as awful as PERCOTA warned us they would be.  They may make the 2007 team seem like world beaters.  They may remind some of us of one of the teams from the late '60's or early '70's.  Or, for you younger folks, the mid 80's.  These guys are bad and I'm quickly getting to the point where I realize that it may not get any better.

If it wasn't for the Cleveland Indians, a team that can't even win when the opposing pitcher hits third in the lineup, and the Oakland Athletics, the Sox would be the worst team in the American League.  They've lost four straight, and eight of their last eleven and are five games behind in the American League Central.  Five games out in May is not a big deal if you have confidence you can turn it around.  I don't think at this point this team or their fans think that might happen.

This weekend series with Toronto is a microcosm of the problem.  Friday night John Danks got raked early and often and the Sox offense barely got on track.  Saturday, Bartolo Colon pitched well, but all the Sox could offer in support was one run.  They clung to the lead until the bottom of the eighth when Scott Linebrink gave up two runs and they lost the game.  Yesterday, they came up with two runs in the first inning, only to have Pink Floyd lose the lead in the first inning and having the Jays never look back.

It's enough to drive you nuts if you let it.

The fix is simple for this team.  People need to hit.  People need to pitch.  People need to do their jobs.  The young guns have to dominate again.  The old bats need to crank it up.  Or else.

Lightning Round
