Quick Shots: Save Some For Tonight, Fellas

  • I'll admit I didn't write anything yesterday because I was so upset about Sunday's Pittsburgh game.  A game like that and a game like the Toronto game a week ago are the difference between finishing first and finishing fourth.  There is no excuse for what happened Sunday and Bobby Jenks doesn't get a free pass from me for blowing what should have been a win.
  • I'll also admit I went to bed last night after the Sox went up 11-3, although I did have a nightmare that the game turned into the Cleveland-Tampa Bay game.  Seriously, I did.  Hey, you live the life, you dream the life. Big win last night, I just hope the Sox didn't use all their runs for this week in one game.  The White Sox return last night's gift from the Angels with a gift of their own tonight: Bartolo Colon.
  • Congrats to Buzz Lightyear for passing Michael Jack Schmidt on the all-time homer list.  I hope this doesn't keep him out of the hall of fame.
  • So, how hurt is Carlos Quentin now?  Is his foot injury really more severe than the Sox are letting on or did he just tweak it really good last night? Will this go away soon and will Q be able to play on a regular basis or is he about to be known as "Carlos Quentin, when he's healthy. . ."  The good news is that Scotty Pods is playing well right now and if the Sox DL Q, Dewayne Wise can come back without the Sox having to make a major decision now.  If it were up to me, Wilson Betemit would get voted off the island in a heartbeat.  Or at least his glove would. (South Side Sox)
  • The toughest decision the Sox may have to make may not concern position players, but pitchers.  If Jose Contreras is allowed to come back, how does that affect Clayton Richard, who has pitched very well in his starts.  There was some talk about Contreras replacing Pink Floyd in the rotation, but if Floyd builds on his win from the other night, that will go by the wayside.  I think if Bartolo Colon continues to struggle, Contreras may get his slot with Colon being traded to Seattle Sutton.
  • How bad is Mike MacUseless?  So bad, it appears the Washington Nationals don't want him at the major league level. (The Rocket)
  • As far as "The Chairman" concerned, the Jake Peavy issue is ancient history.  And, oh, by the way, he's happy to trade anybody. Honestly, the more he opens his mouth, the more you understand how much about the bottom line he is and how little about winning he is, despite what the lap dogs on the radio or in the newspapers want you to believe.
  • For all of the weeping and wailing Sox fans have done this year (perhaps prematurely), things could be worse.
  • Perhaps Blackhawks coach Joel Quinneville and the Cubs Milton Bradley should get together for a bottle of whine.
  • Speaking of the Hawks, try walking the walk instead of talking the talk.  Getting beaten 6-1 in your own rink with three stars out for the other team does not exactly inspire confidence among your fan base.
  • David Ruetimann wins his first Winston Nextel Sprint Cup race in the rain.  His crew made a gutsy call leaving him on the track when others went into pit, thinking they had nothing to lose.  This is why NASCAR is a team effort.
  • The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again hoping for a different result.  Jim Basillie, come on down.  Your straight jacket is ready.
  • I saw this as part of a creative article on college coaches.  Since Davewood Bumstedt is a favorite target around here, I had to get the shot in.  You can read the rest of it here. (Wiz of Odds)
