Quick Shots: No Sweep For You, Third Time Is No Charm Edition
- Good news/bad news for the White Sox last night. The bad news is they still can't get over the hump in putting together a series sweep. The good news was a second strong pitching performance from Pink Floyd.
- Memo to Josh Fields: That warm sensation on the back of your neck is Gordon Beckham's breath. It looks like all the yahoos who call Ranger Ronge may get their wish sooner than I would have liked.
- Carlos Quentin might have to wear special shoes to avoid da agony of da feet. (Foul Balls)
- The other team in town has decided their version of Beckham is ready.
- Nobody melts down like Carlos Zambrano.
- Those who are applying a conspiracy theory to Kenny Williams' pursuit of Jake Peavy have it all wrong. Believe me, I know a conspiracy theory when i hear one and this isn't one. I really believe Kenny thought he could convince Peavy to come to Chicago.
- RIP 2008-09 Chicago Blackhawks. Thanks for the memories and the promise of things to come. Just a little free advice: If you want to move on to the finals next year, you need to remove Tomas Holmstrom from in front of your net.
- The death of the Cleveland Indians may be premature. Last night, they went down 5-0 in the first inning, tied the game in the bottom of the second and wound up beating Tampa Bay 12-7. Two nights ago, they scored eight runs in the ninth to beat Tampa Bay 11-10. Watch on, the Tribe is coming.
- I remember watching Fran Tarkington play football with the Giants and the Vikings. He was an elusive quarterback when quarterbacks were primarily pocket passers. There is nothing elusive about his feelings about Brett Favre. (PFT)
- SEC Commish Mike Slive gets it, even if Congress doesn't.
- Congratulations to Patrick Roy, who absolutely made the right choice. He knows darn well he'd be losing a lot more than winning and nobody wants to start their NHL coaching career out like that.
- Billy Gillispie is suing the University of Kentucky because he says he was fired without "just cause." Um, Billy, as far as Big Blue Nation is concerned, playing in the NIT is "just cause."
- As Vince Gill tells us, it's always "the next big thing." Tough day to be Brian Baldinger, who I thought was one of Fox's better analysts.
- Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz It's called a dream matchup because watching it puts you asleep.
