Quick Shots: White Sox Hope To Hit The Zach
- It was a very nice win for the Chicago White Sox last night. Instead of waiting for the home run, the Sox took advantage of some situations with timely hits, came from behind, lost the lead, then came back and won. The only thing that brought the evening down was the fact Mark Buehrle got a no decision, although he did that to himself. Solid pitching + timely hitting=wins. The Sox did leave too many men in scoring position last night and even overcame that.
- Today Zack Greinke is on the mound for Kansas City and everyone is talking like this game has already been run by the Royals. The same thing was true a couple of weeks ago when Roy Halliday was pitching for the Blue Jays. Nobody is unhittable, people.
- The sale of the Cubs is going nowhere fast. Maybe Jim Balsillie will make a bid to move them to Winnipeg.
- Speaking of the Cubs, once again the intentions of the marketing department turn out to be disastrous.
- Having kept an eye on the Brewers all season, I can say with pretty good certainty that Brewers GM Doug Melvin is telling the truth. While their starters are not a bunch of sexy names, they get the job done and the bullpen is much improved. That and the Brewers have a pretty good offense to help the pitchers out.
- Marcellus Wiley shoots back at Sir Francis about the Elderly Hillbilly. Me thinks this is one of those ESPN encouraged tirades, more for pub than for substance.
- I thought Davids Stern fixed these games. What the hell happened? Part of the reason people don't love the NBA anymore is when the Blackhawks got knocked out of the playoffs, they stayed and talked to reporters. The biggest star in the NBA apparently either thought he was too good to talk to reporters or had to go somewhere to pout.
- By the time the Red Wings lose their ability to win the cup, the Blackhawks will be mature. Unfortunately, so will the Penguins. Until then, it's Detroit's cup.
- Speaking of the Hawks, it would be great to have both Nikolai Khabibulin and Marty Havlat back next season. Unfortunately, unless Dale Tallon can find a taker for Crstobal Huet, signing Khabibulinwill be very cost prohibitive. The best thing this team has going for it is that it doesn't need much tweaking or a splashy free agent signing to be successful next year. I guess the question Tallon has to ask himself is does he think Khabibulin's absence can help Huet?
- Paging Hunter Hillenmeyer. Your fifteen minutes are now up. The Bears also took care of one of their better backups.
- Why is it when basketball coaches act like football coaches, people get offended?
- Today's list: Ten NFL players that may want to consider a career change
