Quick Shots: Would Big Frank Take A Walk?

  • Here's a question to ponder: If Frank Thomas is ready to return to the White Sox in a non-playing role, could he become the successor to current hitting coach Greg Walker?  The Sox have done wackier things.  It appears Thomas has patched things up with Kenny and Ozzie and he's easily one of The Chairman's all-time favorites.  It's not a shot at Walker, but eventually the pressure to replace him will become pretty intense, if it isn't already.  The question about Frank would be the same as it is for all great players: Can he teach what comes naturally to him?  In a lot of cases, great players cannot coach.  See Denis Savard for details or study Ted Williams record as manager of the Washington Senators.
  • My personal belief is Thomas will go into broadcasting, most likely for WTBS, which is based in his home state of Georgia.
  • Kenny Williams denies ever talking to anyone about Roy Oswald.  Bill Clinton concurs.
  • Ozzie Guillen says he's happy with the current Sox roster and does not see any changes on the horizon.  The truth is, Ozzie wouldn't know if there were any changes coming because Kenny Williams doesn't tell him for fear Ozzie's loose tongue will alert the media.  Joe Cowley said as much the other day on The Score.  Something tells me Ozzie would be a whole lot happier not to see Wilson Needs A Better Mit.
  • Tom Verducci still thinks the White Sox are sellers not buyers.  I wonder when the last time Tom left the east coast was.
  • Vin Scully proves once again why he may be the greatest announcer ever.
  • If it were anyone other than LaBron James, would David Stern's reaching out to him consist of a fine and a suspension?  Stern is such a hypocrite and is one of the best reasons to ignore the NBA.
  • Andy Dolan is making me scared.  Real scared. (Desipio)
  • I don't know if Adam Burish can hit, but I'd sure like to see him go a couple of rounds with Buzz Lightyear.  BTW, Hawk Harrelson is the only person on the planet that doesn't know that hockey players are generally the best golfers among those playing the big four sports. Hawk thinks it's baseball players.  That's because Hawk was a baseball player who became a professional golfer (for a minute.)
