Tale of Two Ballgames; White Sox Continue to Reassemble Band

Whatever the case and whatever the reason, the White Sox looked like a totally different team in the second game of their day night doubleheader against division leading Detroit. The Cuban Missile drove one out in the first inning. The least likely member of the White Sox to hit a homer, Scotty Pods went deep. Then, the cherry on top of the sundae, a big two-run opposite field bomb by Buzz Lightyear. Game over.
With the offense finally there to support their pitcher, Jose Contreras pitched like a fifty year-old. His control was outstanding, his pitches right where they should be and even his defense was awesome.
In game one,. the Sox wasted a decent pitching performance by Clayton Richard as they squandered opportunity after opportunity given to them by Tigers starter Armando Galarraga. Every time the Sox would tie it up, the Tigers would untie it, the last time coming on two Sox errors in the top of the ninth and an RBI single from Sox killer Brandon Inge.
If the Sox are going to make some hay in the standings and re-establish themselves as a possible contender in the AL Central, they need to win the next three games and play like they did in game 2 rather than game 1. Of course, with this group, which Sox team shows up is always a mystery.
Lightning Round
- Kenny Williams will not rest until the band is completely back together. Has anyone contacted Carl Everett and Cliff Pollite yet?
- If you were going to cut one player from each AL team, who would that player be? (Ump Bump)
- More reaction to the return of Jose Contreras (Sox Machine)
- Even more reaction to the return of Jose Contreras (Foul Balls)
- Hmmm, sounds like someone pushed the panic button (Sox and the City)
