It's Not A Win Over The Cubs; It's A Three Game Winning Streak Stupid

It was depressing waking up this morning after one of the White Sox best played games of the year to the headline blaring "White Sox Need To Win To Stay Together."  It was far more depressing to read it, with Tribune baseball writer Phil Rogers saying he thought Kenny Williams and the Chairman were more apt to be sellers than buyers.  And Rogers thinks beating the Cubs is the key to the Sox being allowed to compete for the rest of the year.

Here's what you wonder about as a Sox fan.  You are invested emotionally in this team. You've seen ups and downs and have come to the conclusion that there is no reason that these guys can't win the AL Central.  One good hot streak, a little help from a couple other teams and badda bing badda boom, it's playoff city, USA.  As it is, the Sox are only three games behind the Tigers (who have lost four straight) and only one behind the Twinkies (who lost yesterday.)  There is no reason that the Sox who are playing with Jim Thome at three quarter speed, Paul Konerko at half speed and Carlos Quentin at no speed at all, can't pull this off.

Yet, I keep waiting for The Chairman to declare "Anybody who thinks we can catch Detroit is crazy."

This team, even in its' current form is in position to win the division.  They have solid starting pitching, buoyed by the so far triumphant return of Jose Contreras.  Yesterday, John Danks showed signs of snapping out of it like Gavin Floyd has.  Mark Buehrle is always dependable.  The bullpen is among the best in the league.  The offense, when it does what it did yesterday can click.

There are those who believe that this season will end in disaster and that the parts need to be sold off now while the value is high and there is still an ROI.  Let's keep our fingers crossed that these players sense the urgency and come up big.  Otherwise, they may come up in another uniform.

Lightning Round
