Just In The Nick Of Time

It was like Christmas in June or perhaps a father's day present from the Cincinnati Reds.

  • Top of the sixth, tie game, two on, two out and what to my wandering eyes did appear from the bullpen but Nick Masset.  Apparently everyone except Dusty Baker knew how this was going to end.  And before you could say, "put it on the board", The Cuban Missile had launched a Cuban missile and the Sox took a lead which they never gave up (although Octavio Dotel did try.)
  • Overall, a shabby night for the defense and I'm guessing Chris Getz gets sat down in favor of Jayson Nix today due to his booting of two ground balls, plus that error on Thursday at Wrigley that set off the fireworks in the eighth.  One thing that was impressive were the Sox arms in center and right, a putout for Dewayne Wise, a near putout if the runner would have gone by B.A.  Scotty Pods has, by far, the weakest arm of the bunch.  BA however did boot one and play center like he was half asleep last night, but there is little if anything Ozzie can do short of stick Nix or Fields in left and Pods in center to sit BA down.
  • Congrats to The Savior on his first home run, a big three run job which got the Sox within two at the time and convinced me this might not be the blowout I was thinking it was going to be.
  • I'm not that disappointed with the effort of Clayton Richard.  He does have these bad outings every once in a while, especially when he has to play defense.  The day Richard wins a gold glove is the same day Nick Masset wins a Cy Young.
  • A.J. remains clutch and clutch is everything.
  • I was stuck was stuck watching the MLB Network broadcast and between the editorializing by Victor (my Dad is Cookie, how do you think I keep getting jobs) Rojas and the interviews they did with Hank Aaron and Frank Robinson was painful. In the fourth, they hardly acknowledged The Savior's first home run so as not to interrupt Aaron.  Aaron STOPPED TALKING so they could, but was waived off by Rojas and Chris Rock soundalike Harold Reynolds who told fans watching coast to coast "we'll give him some love later."
  • Today could be a tough day for the Sox.  Great American Ballpark is known for being a band box and I fear Mark Buehrle may have a few gopher balls in him today.  The Sox will have to step it up and play good defense behind Buehrle to keep the damage to a minimum or the game could get out of hand early.
  • I have to admit, I enjoyed seeing the 1964 uniforms (my first Sox hat looked like the ones they were wearing last night) but I would like to see them play one game in the red pinstripes.  Maybe it's time for "Dick Allen Day."  or "Jeorge Orta Day". Heck, I'd even take "Bee Bee Richards Day."  Just no more 80's uniforms ever, please.
