Quickshots: July 4th Hangover Edition

  • I listened to almost the entire White Sox weekly on the Score yesterday and almost drove the car off I-43 on several occasions. Several callers wanted Jim Thome to be traded.  Of course they didn't stop to think his contract is big and he can only play in the American League.  Several more wanted JD traded.  Again, the contract is the issue, not to mention he's one of the best three players on this team right now.  Several more wanted to mess with the bullpen, which is one of the better ones in baseball.  Here's what I don't understand: Prior to yesterday's meltdown, the Sox had won seven games in a row, and won their last 6 or 7 series in a row and you boneheads want to break up the team.  This was a team that was six games out two weeks ago and four games under five hundred and now they are 3 above .500 and breathing down the Tigers necks.  Yet some of you see it as half empty, which at this point it is not. You are not Sox fans. You are Cub fans on the wrong bandwagon.  Please remove yourselves immediately.
  • One guy called and demanded Carlos Quentin be traded because he had a "me first attitude" (which I have never heard, seen or read.) Sure, pal.  They'll take him off the disabled list for two major league ready players.  It's the Kenny Williams scratch and dent sale, ladies and gentlemen.
  • Ranger Ronge made a good point about what happens when Q returns (besides the lineup gets stronger.)  Pods will move to center.  They will lose some range and some arm, but he needs to play on a daily basis.  Nest year, if JD is gone and Pods is still with the Sox, look for Pods to move back to left and Q will shift to right field.
  • The impact of getting Q back can't be discounted.  In fact, it's like making a trade for a slugging left fielder.  Ozzie thinks Q is the final piece of the puzzle.  Meanwhile, Q had a solid debut in his first rehab start.  (Being Ozzie Guillen)
  • BTW, if I was going to look to trade anyone on the current roster, it would be Josh Fields.  I just don't know what you would get for him straight up, but I would imagine two A prospects if that much.
  • Scotty Pods says the secret to his success these days is that his sphincter isn't as tight.  Even more have noticed that he should be an all-star.  Just remember where you saw it first.
  • Yesterday's loss really annoyed "The Cheat" who thought Ozzie should have gone to the pen sooner.  I agree. (South Side Sox)
  • Here's today's former Sox player done good story.
  • The Sox have changed their rotation to give Mark Buerhle two starts before the all-star game and to start the first game after the break.  I guess they assume he won't get picked for the all-star team.
  • Larry's usual stellar job of getting you up to date on the farm.(South Side Sox)
  • It's getting so bad for the Cubs, the fans are turning on the announcers. (Hire Jim Essian)
  • Phoenix Coyote fans, please familiarize yourself with the following phrase: "Anyone who thinks we can catch San Jose is crazy."  Welcome to the family, almost.
