White Sox Survive Flirtin' With Disaster

I'm travelin' down the road,
I'm flirtin' with disaster.
I've got the pedal to the floor,
My life is running faster.
I'm out of money, I'm out of hope,
It looks like self destruction.
Well how much more can we take,
With all of this corruption.

When White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen brought in Bobby Jenks in the bottom of the eighth, I looked at the wife and said "oh oh."  Princess, puzzled, looked back and me and says "I thought you said he was good."  "He is" I said. "but he stinks at four out saves."

And while Jenks was overpowering in his quick dismissal of Justin Morneau to end the eighth, the ninth was an adventure that almost cost the Sox the game and perhaps the season.  Fortunately, a slick double play ended the game.

A loss last night after having two separate five run leads would have undone a big effort by Pink Gavin Floyd along with Gordon Beckham, Brian Anderson and Jim Thome.  It also could have killed this ballclub.

In the future, Ozzie, if you have Scott Linebrink warming up in the pen, please bring him in during the eighth just because it's his job and because stretching Bobby out is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you are going to get and you certainly don't want a meltdown.

Lightning Round

  • Unlike the callers to the post game show and White Sox weekly, Ozzie is smart enough to know that mortgaging the future for some big, sexy name (Roy Halliday, you know who you are) would be a bad move.
  • It was a big night for Buzz Lightyear last night with four RBI.  He's ready to rock!
  • Meanwhile, back at Central Command, Kenny Williams is a ball of confusion.  You read stories like this and it would lead you to believe that that Sox may be in sell mode or White Flag mode.  That's why they need to stop writing this crap, because it's crap.  This team is 2½ out and pushing the Tigers.  That's all you can ask right now.
  • Everything you ever wanted to know about The Savior..  BTW ladies, he's single!
  • Big game today for the Sox.  They need momentum going into the break and they continue to win series.  In fact, they haven't lost a series in almost a month.
