Quickshots: Don't Worry About Yesterday
- I'm not going to waste a whole lot of time on yesterday's debacle against Baltimore. It was clear from the get go that Jose Contreras had nothing and pitching out of three jams probably wore him out. I would have removed him after the fourth inning, but whatever. Let's just all move on. If you were to be concerned about anything yesterday, it wouldn't be Contreras. It would be the shoddy defense, Ramon Castro looking like Cristobal Huet and the inability to throw out any baserunners.
- I don't consider yesterday an indictment of Contreras. He simply had an off day. All of the Sox starters have had them at one time or another. This is his only meltdown after his return from Charlotte. He'll be fine.
- Rays and Tigers and Twinkies and Angels, oh my! That sums up the next 18 games for the Sox. This is a huge stretch. If the Sox can continue to win 2 of 3 or 3 of four in each of these four series, they will be fine. Tampa Bay is a good test as they are a speed and D team. Their starting pitching hasn't been as good as last year, so with any luck, the reinvigorated Sox offense can make some hay.
- I wish Ozzie would use Aaron Poreda more, especially since D.J. Corrasco has logged so many innings. I know Ozzie would prefer that he have a veteran lefty mop guy, but for now he's going to have to dance with who he brung. I also know Ozzie likes protecting the keeds, but sooner or later, you have to hand him the ball and see what he's got.
