White Sox 1/18th Of The Way There

Here's what we learned last night after a thrilling, chilling, nail biting, 4-3 White Sox winner over Tampa Bay:
  • A.J. Pierzynski CAN throw runners out. Either that or the world will be coming to an end later today.
  • If he'd quit losing focus and giving up unnecessary home runs, Pink Gavin Floyd could be an elite pitcher in the American League.
  • Scott Podsednik is a much better left fielder than he is a center fielder.  And he's an average left fielder.
  • Paul Konerko remains smoking hot at the plate.
  • Scott Linebrink is ineffective and should be moved back in the closing rotation to the sixth inning.
  • Bobby Jenks is on a one man mission to give Ozzie Guillen an ulcer.
  • The Sox can beat good teams.
  • Carl Crawford is AWESOME!
Moving on.
  • I am disappointed in the demotion of Brian Anderson to Charlotte.  I guess because Dewayne Wise is out of options, Anderson became the logical choice.  However, it is painfully obvious that Scott Podsednik is going to have to come out late in ball games because he is a poor defensive outfielder with an arm like a spaghetti noodle.  Anderson, who rivals Jermaine Dye for the best outfield arm and is the best defensive outfielder on the team fills that role nicely.  Still, having a left handed bat on your bench (albeit on that can't hit) probably helped Wise stick around.  I also think if he was exposed to waivers someone would have claimed him.
  • I would venture to say that tonight may be the most important start in Clayton Richard's career.  With Bartolo Colon almost done with his rehab assignment, Freddie Garcia getting in shape, Aaron Poreda waiting in the wings and the trade deadline looming, what Richard does tonight may seal his future as the fifth starter or his White Sox career.
  • Freddie Garcia would like to contribute to this team.  The question is does he have anything to contribute?  Is it too late and too critical a point in the season to give an opportunity to a formerly good pitcher who has fallen on hard times.  Oh wait.  That's Bartolo Colon.
  • The other day I wrote about how I was sick of people who thought this team can't compete.  Apparently, Ozzie has the same illness.
  • Enter Q.  It's not last night that matters.  It's how the foot feels today and tomorrow that will make the difference.
  • Congrats to Buzz Lightyear on being named the AL player of the week.  I guess it comes with a free day off.
  • Nice to see the Twinkies shank one once in a while.
