Quickshots: The Kid Looked Good
- I thought Carlos Torres made a nice debut for the White Sox. Sure, he was a bit inefficient with his pitches, but he kept his team in the game which is more that you can say about the debut of say Arnie Munoz. Of course, by this time next week we could be comparing him to Munoz or Dewon Day. Nice work by the pen. (South Side Sox)
- It was nice to see the Sox overcome a late inning deficit and take advantage of the other team for one of the few times this season.
- Andrew refuses to be fooled by Clayton Richard's fine effort on Tuesday night. (35th Street Review)
- The story of former Sox pitcher Jim Parque, who admits why he took HGH. Can't say as you can blame him. It wasn't a banned substance and the guy was in a full blown panic as to getting back on the mound. When you read his story, you understand better why players were doing it. Some, like Barry Bonds, didn't really need it. But for others, like Parque, it was the difference between getting another shot or calling it a career. I don't condone what he did, but I understand it. I respect the fact that he was willing to share it.
- He's The Savior. That's how he rolls.
- It appears John Danks will pitch Monday against the Twinkies.
- I'm going to disagree with Ozzie Guillen on this one. Yes, Ozzie, we remember the job Bobby Jenks has done in the past. But you have to admit, in what is going to be a tight race, his performance Tuesday night was unacceptable, even for a guy with street cred. Fans pay good money to see their heroes execute and if they don't, the fans have the right and the privilege to show their displeasure. If he comes out and sets them down in order a couple of times, the cheers will return. Just be glad you don't manage the Cubs where Cub fans are so frustrated, they've turned on several players and the announcers.
- Proof that Rays fans take it up the backside.
- For all the people that miss Joe Crede, here's another reason not to. He's hurt again.
- You wonder what White Sox history had been like if The Chairman had purchased the Cubs instead. Or Cub history. Wrigley Field would either be a parking lot or the Cubs would have moved to Tampa and Steve Stone would have become GM. I'm still smiling.
- There was a time when an angry club officials could rip a room full of minor leaguers, go off on every one of them, even challenge them to a test of their manhood without any repercussions. In our politically correct, enabling, give 'em a hug instead of a kick in the ass society, those who attempt to do it the old school way become a source of scorn and ridicule. In the words of Marine Col. Nathan Jessup: "We use words like honor, code, loyalty...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use 'em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post." (Can't Stop the Bleeding)
- The WWL doesn't get mad, they get even. (Sports Media Watch)
- Is it just me or does this whole Ben Rothlisberger deal sound like a cash grab? How can you file a civil suit without pressing criminal charges first? The Sheriff is doing the right thing here. The next chapter of this saga will be some prosecutor, running for re-election and pressured by moralists and women's groups will vow to get to the truth. But how can you do that when there is no physical evidence and no crime scene? Even William Petersen would have a tough time proving this one.
- If former Chicago Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon knew Marion Hossa was hurt when he signed him, then maybe he deserved to be fired.
- The Blackhawks are becoming difficult to embrace and seem to be rubbing their fans the wrong way. Still it could be worse. Bob Pulford could still be running the team. And for that not being the case, I'll follow Rocky Wirtz anywhere. (Yardbarker)
