Quickshots: Old School Out of Session
- There was a day when managers challenged their players to fights and talked sharply to them, cussed them up one side and down the other and ripped them a new one on a daily basis. Now, in our "he needs a hug, not a kick" society, old school guys like Tony Bernazard are portrayed as kooks and bullies. I'm still unclear as to what he did that was so wrong, but if it was lighting up a bunch of underachieving prospects that cost him his job, I'd say that we've become a society of pussies. Period. I've been cussed at by bosses, screamed at, threated with being suspended, fired or both. It happens. But for crying out loud, in athletics, that what people do. Can you imagine Woody Hayes in today's environment? No, I didn't think so.
- I'm all for putting Pete Rose in the hall of fame. Say what you want about the guy, but realize two things: 1) his transgressions happened while he was a manager, not a player and 2) he never used any substances to enhance his ability. He's the all time leader in hits and deserves to be in the hall. That said, I have said for a long time that he will eventually get in by 2050, long after he is dead. (Larry Brown Sports)

- Make no mistake, the Elderly Hillbilly is going to wear purple this year. I hope the Bears put this attention whore right into the ground. And, as I've said before, for two games this year, I will root for the Packers, then shower in lots of hot water and soap.
- The story of Big Ben and the Tahoe hostess has quieted down leading me to believe that she's got a STFU letter from some of Ben's lawyers compelling her to STFU. Look, when you sue someone civilly, you are not after justice, you are after cash. If this woman truly was assaulted as she claims, why would she not only NOT file charges, but in affect, destroy all the evidence including the crime scene itself. You can call me sexist all you want, but you can't deny that this whole tearful admission deal is designed to shame Big Ben into settling quickly and quietly to make this go away and to sully his public image. If he is innocent, I hope he doesn't settle and counter sues her for pain, suffering and loss of endorsement income based on false allegations.
