D.J. vs. Goliath

The White Sox dodged a major bullet with the level playing field provided by the Yankees starting Sergio Deli Mitre. Had it been Burnett or C.C. Sabathia on the mound for the Yankees, this game probably would have been over in a hurry. But fortunately it was Deli Mitre and the Sox took advantage of him, the same way the Yankees dinged Corrasco.
Carlos Quentin had another big game with a homer (his second in his last three games) and an RBI double. Hawk was trying to convince viewers last night that Q is the key to the team's good fortune.
The Yankees looked out of sync last night, giving up a run producing double steal in the four run seventh inning. Ozzie is really enjoying the bottom of the order where he actually has some speed to play with.
The bullpen was pretty solid last night as Tony Pena, Octavio Dotel and Scott Linebrink allowed some anxious moments, but no runs.
What we are learning is just when it is safe to assume anything about this team, they either surprise or infuriate you. You think it will be tough the next couple days against Burnett and Sabathia, but you never really know with these guys, do you?
Lighting Round
- The best news yesterday? Both Detroit and Minnesota lost, returning the Sox to second, only 1½ games behind Detroit.
- On yesterdays roster move, if you are a starter short, why do you bring up an infielder (Brett Lillibridge) unless of course you are about to put the Cuban Missile on the DL.
- Here are some other perspectives on the big Peavy trade from The White Sox Blog,; Larry, the minor league expert from South Side Sox; JJ at the White Sox Examiner; The Cheat at South Side Sox; Scott Miller, CBS Sports and Rickhouse from Tremendous Upside Potential.
- Just in the way he tells the story, you realize that The Chairman can be a speedbump to progress. I guess he doesn't believe that anyone who thinks the Sox can catch Detroit is crazy.
- It's a great feeling when you've worked hard your whole career for something and you finally get there.
