Kenny: "White Sox Are Underachievers" Thank You Captain Obvious

I can't argue with Kenny Williams.  Prior to last night's victory from the jaws of defeat win over Kansas City, the Sox GM was brutally honest in assessing his team.  "We've thrown away a dozen games that way this year, which [has cost] uswhere I thought we would be, in first place and in a good position.  But we deserve what we've got. I'm not happy with a lot of what I see. We're underachievers"

As if to also be a prophet, Williams words rang true during last night's game.  The Sox fell behind 3-0 in the third after Mark Buerhle coughed up three runs after two were out.  The Sox eventually went tied the game and went ahead and were enjoying a three run lead in the eighth inning when Scott Linebrink, the Sox 2009 Mike MacUseless Award nominee, gave up three runs and knotted the game at 7.  Fortunately, for Linebrink, Scott Podsednik's two-out RBI-single scored Alex Rios in the bottom of the eighth and the Sox squeaked by 8-7 in a game that should have been won much easier.

If Kenny is making a list, Linebrink should be on top of it.  He has been awful lately.  Sooner or later, Ozzie will have to move him up in the relief rotation to sixth inning duty.  That way, the Sox will have at least three chances to undo his damage.

It's pretty interesting when you think what the expectations are for this team.  I agree with Kenny 100%, that there is no reason that this group shouldn't win the AL Central.  I thought that even before the Rios and Peavy deals.  They have better pitching than anyone in the division, a better bullpen (on paper, anyway) and position by position a better team.  Beyond the central, we'll see, but with their recent handing of the Yankees and the Angels, it gives you hope that in a short series, these guys could pull the same kind of surprise they did in 2005.   Don't get me wrong.  I'm not saying these guys are the best team in baseball, but if you make the playoffs, anything can happen.  But you have to make the playoffs.

Some people are already satisfied with this season.  Not me. I believe anything short of a division title will be as disappointing as Scott Linebrink's performance.

Tonight, it's "Back to the Future" night at U.S. Commiskey Park.  Michael J. Fox will  throw out the first pitch and if a pitcher needs to come in from the pen, he'll be driven to the mound in a flying Delorian.

One more thing.  If Kenny is really that annoyed with these guys (and he should be) perhaps bringing this guy in from downtown may not be such a bad idea.  Think of Ed Harris as Scott Linebrink and change "Mitch and Murray" to "Jerry and Eddie."
