White Sox Lack Urgency Necessary To Win

Urgency.  Every man over 45 knows that feeling about 3am.  But not the Chicago White Sox.  Faced with the prospect of going on the road to face AL heavyweights Boston and New York as well as a trip to Minnesota, the Sox had the opportunity to fatten up on cellar swelling Kansas City and Baltimore.  How did our heroes fare? 3-3.  3-3 on a home stand where nothing short of 4-2 or 5-1 was acceptable.  Couple that with Detroit's two losses over the weekend in Oakland and you have a boat load of "woulds, shoulda, coulda" to discuss if this Sox team doesn't make the playoffs.

You hear Ozzie talking about how much he likes his roster.  How much can you like a team that over its' last 18 games is hitting .214 with runners in scoring position and two outs.  This team is a lot of things, but clutch does not appear to be one of them.  Given that and the recent backslide of Jermaine Dye and Paul Konerko and you have trouble on the south side.

If this is the team that truly rises to the level of it's opponent, perhaps the east coast juggernaut will not be so oppressive.  But if this is the team that continues to leave men on and struggle for big, game changing hits, in the words of Hawk Harrelson "They gone!"

When is this team going to wake up and realize that the time is NOW, not mid September to begin to position themselves for the playoffs.  If these think they can turn it on any time they want, they are deluding themselves and their fans into thinking that this team can make the playoffs.  The time for talking is done boys.  The time for two out hits is now. As in right now.
