I Have Seen The Enemy And It Ain't The Cubs

It's been a season of many emotions for Chicago White Sox fans.  The surprise of being in contention as late as July; the heartbreak of dropping out of contention after a 2-8 road trip at the end of August; saying hello to future star Gordon Beckham; saying goodbye to World Series hero Jose Contreras and all-around good guy Jim Thome.  Yes, it's been the roller coaster ride from hell this year and it's not over yet.

But before you get too excited about yesterday's two out, two strike come from behind victory at the Metrodump, here's some advice: Do not pin your self esteem on today's makeup game between the Cubs and Sox. It's not worth it.

Both teams are spinning their wheels and going nowhere. The Sox have been declared legally dead by this blog site and the Cubs, at 10½ behind the Cardinals and 6 games back in the wildcard, are further out of it than the Sox are, even though they have a better record. You can imagine too how happy you'd be if you had this as a planned day off and your boss made you come into work.  Both teams will not be very motivated today.

The Sox are even throwing a rookie against the Cubs.  Carlos Torres has made two previous starts, one good, one bad.  Ryan Dumpster gets the call for the Cubs.

The bottom line is this is a meaningless game.  Bragging rights? For what?  Who's the best worst team?  Seriously, wouldn't you rather have seen the Sox win two or three games in the Metrodump than worry about a crappy national league opponent?  If you say no, you are not a White Sox fan.  The Twinkies, Indians, Tigers and Royals are the enemy, not the Cubs.  Forget the obnoxious fans with the arrogant attitude.  It's not worth getting worked up over a game that will do nothing to help either team make the playoffs this year.

Before you start talking smack, getting into fights or worse, betting, on today's game, know this: If this tree falls in the forest, it will not make a sound.
