Where The Heck Was This Two Weeks Ago?

Talk about breaking your heart.  After stinking up stadiums in Boston, New York and Minnesota, the Sox are one strike away from being swept out of the Metrodoom (again) when The Savior goes yard.  It was at that moment  that the sky opened up, the light shone down and the birds all sang in unison.  Maybe the kid really is a Savior.

Following Wednesday's unexpected rally over Joe Nathan and the Twins, the Sox headed to Wrigley Field for their makeup game with the Cubs.  The odds of Carlos Torres getting a win over Ryan Dumpster were pretty slim, but Torres pitched like a veteran yesterday and the Sox broke it open late in the game for a 5-0 shutout over the Cubs.  In fact, the Cubs looked like the Sox in Cub uniforms.  I had no idea the Cubs were as pathetic as they were.

And the Sox yesterday.  They played defense!  Dewayne Wise with the bang bang throw from right field.  Awesome!

In the last two games, you actually saw flashes of all that talent Kenny and Ozzie have been bragging about all summer.  It's kind of strange.  The ship has sailed for these guys, yet the last two games, after the loss of Buzz Lightyear and Jose Contreras sunk in, these guys may have finally gotten the memo.  They may backslide tonight against Boston, but it sure would be nice if these guys played like champions the rest of the year.  Just to give the fans a cheap thrill and maybe some hope for next year.

I'd like to see Tyler Flowers get some at bats just to see if he gets hold of one.  I'd like to see Daniel (Dan? Danny?) Hudson pitch to see if he can get big league hitters out.  But I would also like to see the White Sox play good baseball for the final month of the season.

Yes, it's small consolation for a miserable August, but still, it would be nice.  What's sad is, they may have in them all the time.
