Score Takes Broad Perspective
The Score has a woman on this afternoon doing White Sox weekly. Kerry Sayers is filling in for the Ranger this afternoon and she is just absolutely horrible.
Her knowledge is okay. But, I can tell you from experience that being knowledgeable and knowing how to talk on the radio are two very different things.
It's like nails on a chalkboard. It's not that she's a woman, it's that she is a terrible radio host and it is very, very obvious that she shouldn't be there. She should do some dry runs in a production room or work overnights before they put her on when people can actually hear her. I guess the PD thinks that since most people are watching college football, the listenership is low enough to sneak it in.
I have no issue with woman radio announcers, but I prefer those that can talk in a straight line.
Besides sports talk is man world and as a listener, I listen to sports talk to be around men. The only woman sports talk host I ever liked was "The Fabulous Sports Babe" and she was more like a guy than a woman.
Honestly, if they put her on with someone and let her second chair, she might be tolerable, but alone it is like watching a train wreck.
I know we live in a world where most stations don't give a damn who they put on the air so long as the commercials run. That's a whole different discussion for a different day. But what I can tell you is people still notice and Ms. Sayers clearly isn't ready for prime time.
I don't know Ms. Sayers personally. I know she has a long time sports background and is being converted from TV. But please. I hope she listens to herself on tape when you get off the air today or someone makes her listen to herself.. I guarantee she'd agree with me.
