Quickshots: Jenks Done, For Now Or Ever?
Some thoughts as the 35th St. death march continues:
- Bobby Jenks has a calf injury and will be shelved for the rest of the season. The big questions surrounding him are will we see him in a Sox uniform next year and if we don't, will the Sox do the right thing and donate his uniforms as housing for the homeless? Seriously, I think Kenny shops him.
- Jermaine Dye has come to grips that he probably won't be with the team next year. But, if you are a real Sox fan, do yourself and the rest of us a favor: Lay off him. Sure, he's flat out sucked the second half of this year, but he's been a key part of the team for five years and he was the MVP in the only world series that you've ever seen the White Sox win (unless you are in your nineties). He's a class guy, a great role model and deserves your respect and admiration, not your frustration. Please, stand and cheer for him. He's earned it.
- Daniel Hudson looks like he may have earned a spot on the Sox roster, for next season. He's probably going to get the long man slot in the bullpen and, like Aaron Poreda this year, be used by Ozzie only when absolutely necessary. (South Side Sox)
- Now that the barn door has been open for at least six weeks, Alex Rios finally goes to look for the horse. As talented a ball player as he has been in the past, Rios is going to have to work hard in the off season and come back hungry in March. He will have to win over both the Sox brass who acquired him and the fans who have absolutely no faith in him and think of him as a more expensive version of Jerry Owens. Truth be told, with an untradeable contract, all Rios has to do is show up and cash his check. Let's hope he's got more character than that. A lot more.
- If you want to point the finger at certain areas of the White Sox team for this year's failure, don't point it at the starting rotation. They've been pretty impressive.
- One wonders what might have been.
- Lane Kiffin continues to write those mouth checks. Here's a guy who finally won a few points with Tennessee's gritty performance Saturday against Florida and rather than push his team, it's me,me, me. What a self aggrandizing jerk this man is.
- Visiting teams will soon get to treat Green Bay stoplights like they treat the Packers offensive line.
- Adawale Ogunleye says boo birds have no place at Soldier Field. Neither do repeated three and outs or poor defensive line play. (Wale's World)
