Mets Go Through White Sox Dumpster Again

I don't know what the relationship between the New York Mets and crappy White Sox pitchers is, but for whatever reason, the Mets seem to enjoy picking through the Sox trash cans.  Some examples:

  • In 2003, the White Sox acquired second baseman Robbie Alomar for the playoff push.  In exchange, the Sox gave up pitchers Royce Ring, Andrew Salvo and Edwin Almonte. Almonte pitched in one big league game, Salvo never saw the light of day and Ring has logged 65 innings in the show since the trade six years ago.  He's now with Atlanta.
  • When the Sox needed a spare catcher this season, they picked up Ramon Castro from the Mets in exchange for Lance Broadway, a failed first round pick.  Broadway has gone 0-1 with a 6.07 era since he was traded.
  • Yesterday, the Mets picked up Jack Egbert off waivers.  Egbert had an excellent spring, but failed miserably in his few big league appearances.
  • Told he will not be back next season, relief pitcher Octavio Dotel says his first choice is to pitch for the Mets next year
  • Current Mets Manger Jerry Manuel managed the White Sox from 1999-2003.  He was let go after the Sox decided that he couldn't win the big one.  His replacement sure did.
  • Given that the White Sox dumpster has been a feast for the Mets, perhaps they would be interested in Scott Linebrink.
