Don't Dip Your Pen In Company Ink (Unless You Want To Tick Off The NOW Gang)

The recent controversy involving David Letterman and the admission that he has played hide the salami with several of his female staffers is not a big deal. The only newsworthy component is the fact that some jackass, who apparently hated Letterman because one of the woman he was involved in was his girlfriend, attempted to extort $2 million dollars from him.
That should be the end of it right there, with the extortion, not the sex being the issue.
All of the information that has surfaced so far has indicated that Letterman didn't force himself on anyone. A man having sex with co-workers is not news. And, to Letterman's credit, he hasn't denied it, so there's not that whole taint of obstruction like there was with Bill Clinton or John Edwards.
Yet, whenever someone famous gets themselves in hot water, leave it to news organizations to exacerbate the situation by bringing in people who just can't wait to sharpen their knives and further their social agenda by bashing that person. When Don Imus was down, out trotted Butch and Sundance (Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson) to take their shots which eventually got Imus fired, which is exactly what Al and Jesse wanted.
To help kick Letterman around, CNN has brought in the National Organization of Women, a group whose soul purpose is to bash anything with balls. According to them:
"The latest Letterman controversy sheds new light on the widespread objectification of women in the workplace," NOW said in a statement Tuesday. "Most women can attest to the fact that many workplaces are plagued with inappropriate behavior by men in power."
Yeah, that's right. And women never discuss men and their attributes in the workplace, right? And females never come on to males? And we've never, ever read about female teachers or soccer moms having their way with teenage boys, right? But wait, there's more wisdom:
"As 'the boss,' he is responsible for setting the tone for his entire workplace -- and he did that with sex. In any work environment, this places all employees -- including employees who happen to be women -- in an awkward, confusing and demoralizing situation," the group said.
Isn't it safe to say that any sex between co-workers, be it the boss and a secretary or a janitor and a cleaning woman is awkward? Have you ever watched Mad Men? Here's the big finish, wait for it, wait for it. . .
"The National Organization for Women calls on CBS to recognize that Letterman's behavior creates a toxic environment and to take action immediately to rectify this situation. With just two women on CBS' board of directors, we're not holding our breath."
So, let me get this straight, ladies. You assume, although there is no evidence to support your argument, that the sex in this case was predicated on if a woman slept with Dave, then she might get promoted (apparently she already got a raise.) And you want CBS to step in and tell Letterman to keep little Dave in his pants or better yet kick him to the curb because some of his female staffers had consensual relations with him.
Ladies, allow me, a man, to give you a biology lesson. Consensual sex between a man and a woman cannot take place unless the woman agrees. PERIOD, PARAGRAPH, END OF FREAKIN' DISCUSSION. And no means no. Anything beyond that and the police get involved. Or lawyers. Women are empowered to say no. And when they say no, that should be the end of it. If it isn't, find a lawyer, find a cop. In many cases, a woman finds a lawyer not after the first proposition but after the man breaks it off. Or doesn't return her phone calls, which is a different topic for a different day.
Once again, CNN has fanned the flames of discord by offering a soap box to a group whose only agenda is to make trouble and sway public opinion to a place where it need not go. Sex between consenting individuals is none of anyone's damned business. Especially among those who oppose it to begin with.

Letterman is fine; he never was the “Family Values” type. Yes, he probably cheated on his girlfriend now wife. But at least he does go around claiming he is Mr. “Family Values” like some of our politicians/ preachers (can you just see the grin on all “Fake News” reporters/ commentators and the Palin fringe). This has been a tough summer, for Dave, for our economy but at least he did not end up on the “Republican 2009 Summer of Love” list: Assemblyman, Michael D. Duvall (CA), Senator John Ensign (NV), Senator Paul Stanley (TN), Governor Mark Sanford (SC), Board of Ed Chair, and Kristin Maguire AKA Bridget Keeney (SC). Did I miss NOW memo of outrage with Senator John Ensign? Are they even relevant anymore.

My goodness. YOu don't like women much do you? David Letterman had a WIFE and a small child at home, who were devastated by his behavior. ANd you don't think a man messing around with coworkers is a big deal. Oh, boy.

Boy, you talk about taking someone totally out of context. What I said was consensual sex between a man and a woman cannot take place unless the woman agrees.
I'm not saying that Letterman didn't exhibit bad judgment, but that's his issue and I shouldn't be bothered by it. I also don't appreciate it when some celebrity does something wrong and all of these fringe groups are dragged onto TV to weep, wail and gnash their teeth. Who Dave Letterman sleeps with is the least of my concerns.
Whatever Letterman did is his issue, between his God and his family and has nothing whatsoever to do with me. It doesn't put food on my table, pay my bills or increase the quality of my life.
And , please spare me the woman is a victim in all this. If a co-worker gets hit on by the boss, she has an obligation to report it to HR. If she sleeps with the guy, she's no longer a victim, she's an accomplice.
