Quickshots: Buzz Wants Back
- Former White Sox DH Jim Thome would love to come back to the Sox next season. If the Sox do not want to expend the $13 million Thome would probably demand or if they want to pass on a one dimensional player that can only advance one base at a time, Thome might seek employment elsewhere in the AL Central. He's mentioned Minnesota, where they appear full up at DH. I wonder if Cleveland or Detroit would be interested. That would suck to see Buzz in a foreign uni, especially when he has had a ton of success against the Sox in his career. (South Side Sox)
- Buzz Lightyear isn't the only guy who wants to come back.
- Scott Podsednik's agents have already had at least one meeting with the Sox regarding their client coming back next year. I can see Pods as a fourth outfielder/DH. Personally, I would pass because he is an inconsistent player who has never had two consecutive good years.
- Here's a little more on Phil Cuzzi, an umpire who has the eyesight of Stevie Wonder.
- They've dug up some historical footage of Babe Ruth playing the outfield. He was actually a very good fielder. Today, of course, he would be a DH.
- If I read one more "what if" article about Javy Vazquez, Nick Swisher and Orlando Cabrera, I think I'll scream. Look, they all had good years for new teams, but you can't just plug them in to the 2009 Sox and say it would have worked. You can't really do that because there are all kinds of factors involved like where would have you played Nick Swisher and Javy was pitching in the National League. It makes no sense to try to evaluate any of these trades until we see what players like Tyler Flowers and Jeff Marquez become.
- Even though almost 10% of the country is unemployed, your US Congress is more interested in helping those suspended by the NFL.
- I was at a family event over the weekend and I ran into my brother's brother in law, Joey, who is every bit the rabid White Sox fan that I am. I asked him how to right the ship in 2010 and he said "I think they need an athletic left fielder" and immediately mentioned Chone Figgins. I countered with my argument for Carl "The Answer" Crawford and suddenly he was drinking the Crawford kool-aid. I do what I can to educate the masses.
- College football week 6: It's all about Florida and Alabama. More on this tomorrow.
- Al Sharpton is planning to do to Rush Limbaugh what he did to Don Imus. Al, the NFL doesn't concern you. Please, for the sake of humanity, STFU. Your fifteen minutes ended with Tawana Brawley.
- The Packers go back to the future for line help. I wonder if Jerry Kramer has some game left.
- A tribute to a hall of famer to a guy who someday will be one himself.
