Quickshots: Back In The Saddle
- We're back after a few days away for what is really important, my wife Princess. Princess had part one of her disk surgery yesterday and will have part two tomorrow. So far, so good. But, hey, when it's your wife, you worry, especially when a surgeon you don't know too well is playing with your wife's spinal cord. Yikes! Anyway, she's recovering and my mother-in-law is in from Alabama to help take care of the wife and the dogs while I am out of town at work. Watching the Alabama game Saturday night with those two was certainly a unique experience.
- Tennessee fans need to get over Alabama's denial of their request to wear their home jerseys Saturday in Tuscaloosa. It's Alabama's home field and if they want the opponent to wear white, that's their right. Memo to Lane Kiffin: If you think that this may fire up your team, you are sadly mistaken. Jonathan Crompton is going to need a stretcher before this one is over.
- To the surprise of no one, the Sunday night football game tripled the audience of the Sunday night NLCS game. When is MLB going to wake up and realize no one wants to watch baseball on October 18th?
- The Cuban Sandwich leads the White Sox kiddie corps to victory.
- My alma mater splits a Hare.
- He Gone! The Punky QB goes south.
- Tony Romo is supposed to be the best athlete-golfer in a poll conducted by Golf Digest. So much for the urban legend that hockey players were the best golfers. (The Big Lead)
- I don't understand how a HEAD coach can be stripped of his play calling duties. He's the head coach, he gets to decide. By someone deciding for him, it weakens his voice with his team. Of course, when the team is the Redskins, we know who is calling the shots. Nobody head dances like Daniel Snyder. He should run a radio station. Oh wait, he does.
- The Cheat would like to see Scotty Pods back next year but only on the bench. (South Side Sox)
- South Side Sox takes a look back that the season that was.
- Larry reports on ten names you may hear soon. (South Side Sox)
- How come their are statues to just about anyone and everyone who ever wore a jock in Chicago, yet none celebrating the greatest Chicago athlete of all-time? (Midwest Sports Fans)
- So, you think you know Ditka?
- Once a hack, always a hack. Get the damn story right before you shoot your pen off. (Deadspin)
- Mike Shanahan turned down an opportunity to take over the Redskins, but may reconsider after the season. Seems that he felt like it was too late to fix them now. What I continue to fail to understand is why "A" list coaches would even consider working for Daniel Snyder or Jerry Jones, knowing in most cases it ends badly. There are so many other opportunities in the NFL that don't have the owner looking over your shoulder at every turn. (Sportsfilter)
