Gus Johnson Thinks Everyone Runs From The Cops

As reported in Sports by Brooks, CBS announcer Gus Johnson made a public statement about his "break away from the cops speed" comment yesterday.  A half hearted one.

“If there is a perception of racism in this analogy, it is not coming from me. People of all races have run from the law. However, to those who are offended, I apologize.”

Kind of arrogant and half assed wouldn't you say?

What Gus fails to realize is that the player he characterized as being chased by the cops was black and his comments imply that black people run from the cops or are routinely chased by the cops.  Had Alvin Garrett been white, do you think anyone would have cared about Howard Cosell's "look at that little monkey run!" comment.  No, of course not.

Gus seems to believe in the double standard that an African-American can say what he wants and get away with it.  What's obvious is If Gus were Jim Nantz he'd be suspended or worse due to public outcry and outside forces like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

CBS remains silent on the subject.
