Bears Should Whip Out The Ol' Johnson

I know what the arguments are against picking up Larry Johnson.  He's a head case, he's lost it, he's done, etc.  But I also know that not so long ago, the same was being said about former Bears running back Cedric Benson.  Benson reinvented himself in Cincinnati and ran for close to 200 yards a couple of weeks ago against the team that gave up on him.

Johnson has had a terrible year, first on the field and then off the field with his use of the word "fagots" in a public setting around people with pens, paper and microphones.  This of course sparked an outcry from Skippy and Bruce and greased the skids for Johnson's exit in KC.

This is not intended to be critical of Matt Forte, but the Bears were a much better team when they had two feature backs.  Johnson would add a different flavor to the Bears non existent running game and perhaps the competition would get Forte going.  With Adrian Peterson not being 100% and Garrett Wolfe down with a kidney injury, the Bears could simply IR Wolfe to make room for Johnson on the roster.

Kick the tires for eight games and see how it goes.  What have the Bears got to lose?  At this point, they have as much a chance of getting to the playoffs as Milton Bradley has of being voted most popular Cub.

If the gamble pays off, it might take some of the sting out of the season.  Of course, we know that Lovie and Jerry are not gamblers and don't like players who have issues.  Tommie Harris is on double secret probation.  Cedric Benson and Tank Johnson are in Cincinnati.  And the Bears are 4-4 and heading downhill fast.

What could it hurt?
