Sox Fans Jones For Better Nachos, Not Jones

We told you the other day how the White Sox had abandoned long time Nacho partner Azteca, based in Chicago for Mission a company based in Mexico.  We also told you that based on the Sox statement there must have been some bidding involved and Mission obviously undercut Azteca.  This would now give the Sox cheaper Nachos which would result in more profit.

Give the White Sox credit.  They don't let their projected profit sit around long.  They went right out and signed outfielder Andruw Jones.  And if this were 1999, we'd all be really excited.  But it's not and Andruw Jones' once bright star stopped shining four years ago.  He's not even close to being what he once was, but like the Sox so often do, they consider signing an over the hill player with a big name "brad recognition."  So, the casual fan says "Andruw Jones!  I've heard of him, he's good!" While the well informed fans says "HUH?  Kenny are you on crack?"

So what if the guy hit 17 homers last year?  He hit .214 for crying out loud.  And he's in Bobby Jenks game shape and can't even run anymore.  The guy is totally unfocused.  Even in his prime, he'd drive Atlanta manager Bobby Cox nuts with some of his antics.

Didn't they try this once with Darrin Ersted?  How'd that work out?

I totally get why the White Sox signed Omar Vizquel. One of the better defensive shortstops in the last decade, Vizquel will be able to help Joey Cora mentor infielders.  This could become a situation where Omar eventually becomes a coach or a permanent member of the organization.  The truth is, Ozzie doesn't have the time to hold The Cuban Missles hand anymore, but Vizquel can lead him by example.  Vizquel is also more of a team player than Orlando Cabrera, so you won't hear him whining about playing time.

Maybe if the White Sox could change hot dog vendors, they could afford to go after Miguel Batista, Doug Brocail, Bruce Chen or Randy Winn.

BTW, if the Sox really do sign Coco Crisp, that would give them another aging over the hill outfielder to put into the lineup.  I thought the object was to get younger, stronger, faster not older, slower, more over the hill.

I'm really getting concerned.  I think Kenny is trying to reassemble the 2003 all-stars.
