Stuttering Dave Hits The Wall

Just when you thought it was safe to believe in Dave Wannstedt, the Pittsburgh Panthers laid a mighty turd on the field in Morgantown, West Virginia.

With an opportunity to go into next week's matchup against Cincinnati with a chance to win the Big East title and a trip to the BCS, the Panthers offense deserted them and they lost in the waning seconds on a WVU field goal 19-16.  The loss makes it impossible for Pitt, even if they upset Cincy next week, to make it to the BCS.

I don't know if it was the coaching or the play calling or whatever, but in a game against their biggest rival, the Panthers couldn't get it done.  This was payback for 2007 when West Virginia, poised to make a run for the BCS championship game, lost to Pitt.

It's been a good year for the Panthers and even the most cynical Dave critics were starting to feel like at long last Wanny had gotten his act together.  I guess last night the ah pieces ah weren't ah all in ah place.
