Dad Gum It, Bobby, That's The Chicago Way!

"You want to get Capone?  Here's how you get Capone.  He pulls a knife, you pull a gun.  He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue.  That's the Chicago way."

Kudos to Florida State football coach Bobby Bowden.  Sent packing by the school's administration after thirty-four years of putting their program on the map, Bowden has decided that he will not be a part of Seminole football after the Gator Bowl on New Year's Day.

While his skills as a coach may have eroded a bit, his ability to raise large of sums of money on behalf of the university haven't.  Not having him around for 2010 will definitely cause the coffers to go down.  While Bowden claims he doesn't want to be around looking over new coach Jimbo Fisher's shoulder, it is obvious he is hurt and disappointed that he wasn't allowed one more year to try and turn his flagging program around.  And since they hurt him, he'll take his formidable skills as a politician and rainmaker with him when he walks out the door.

The sad part of all this is Bowden built it.  Florida State football was a joke before he arrived in Tallahassee and it was his blood and sweat that made it into a winner.  But instead of a final year in his honor, he got pushed out the door by people who thought he was too old to lead the program one final year.

Rumor has it he is considering moving from Tallahassee to Palm Springs or his native Birmingham.  No matter where he winds up, FSU will literally be poorer because of it.
