Leach Edges Closer to Door At Texas Tech

The player is Adam James, son of ESPN announcer and former SMU legend Craig James.
Instead of checking the story out first before taking action against their coach, Tech immediately suspended Leach indefinitely and appointed an assistant to run the team for the Alamo bowl. Craig James, who was scheduled to be part of ESPN's announcing team has been benched by the network because of the conflict.
While it's become a case of he said-he said, there are some questions that need to be answered. First, were Leach's actions vindictive or was he just looking out for the kid? According to Leach's attorney, Adam James was put in a dark area because Leach thought being out in the sun would be bad for him. So, he sent him to a garage like area.
James claims that he was not able to sit and when he tried to, anything he could sit on was removed.
There are also charges that Craig James is a helicopter parent.
The way this will end is that Leach most likely will be fired. After a so-so season which followed a bitter contract negotiation with AD Gerald Meyers, this could be the excuse for Tech to show Leach the door. The suspension serves as indemnification that the school takes the allegations seriously and that they will do everything to investigate the matter and make it right. If firing Leach stems the tide of a multi-million dollar lawsuit, so be it.
Interesting enough, the man Leach has warred with, Meyers, has been an outspoken supporter of former Tech basketball coach Bob Knight. It was Meyers who brought Knight to Lubbock after his departure from Indiana and enabled Knight to break Dean Smith's record for career wins. It's hard to figure that a man who supports Bob Knight isn't necessarily in the corner of his football coach.
Still, you have to wonder if James, a player who has not been shy complaining about his lack of playing time is embellishing and using his famous father as a mouthpiece to get even with his coach. This wouldn't be the first time in history it's happened and Tech needs to be careful when it investigates the matter to explore both sides of the issue.
