Boy, The Brits Sure Know How To Say It

In my reading this morning,  I came across a story about the coach of some soccer team that was canned

In the US, we would say something like "After three years of not making the playoffs, the Bears have fired head coach Lovie Smith."

In Britain, they wax far more poetic: "Bolton manager Gary Megson has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect, the struggling Premier League club confirmed on Wednesday.Megson, 50, was axed after his side squandered a two-goal lead in Tuesday's 2-2 draw with Hull at the Reebok Stadium."

I love the "with immediate effect" part.

I wonder if squandering a two goal lead in soccer is as bad as blowing a seventeen point lead in football.  I guess not because Lovie still has a job.
