Memo To Cub Fans: The White Sox Aren't Your Enemy

Here's a little free advice to our friends who follow the Cubs: Worry about yourselves.

It is really annoying to read about how the Cub fans are bashing the White Sox at their latest convention.  And, therein lies the rub.  While Sox fans are worried about the Twinkies, Tigers and Indians, the Cub fans are obsessed with the Sox.  Have you ever given thought to worrying about the Cardinals or the Astros or perhaps even the Brewers?

We Sox fans know it's been 102 years since your heroes won a world series, but don't take it out on the White Sox or their fans.  We've had nothing to do with it.  We didn't blow chances in 1918, 1929, 1932, 1935 and 1945.  We didn't collapse in 1969.  We didn't let a ground ball go through our legs in the fourth game of the 1984 NLCS.  We didn't get battered by the Giants in the 1989 NLCS.  We didn't totally lose our cool in the sixth game of the 2003 NLCS and then point our privileged fingers at a fan.

And certainly, don't blame the White Sox for winning that trophy you so badly covet in 2005.  Sure, that was four seasons ago, but it was in our lifetime and within the last 100 years.

So, the next time you congregate in large numbers, be it at your convention, your favorite fern bar or your country club, leave the White Sox and their fans out of the discussion.  Because the White Sox are not the enemy.  And Sox fans, let's not try to even the score at Soxfest.  The Cubs should be completely off of your radar.  There are far more important teams to worry about..
