Butt Out, Mr. President

There's an old line about the difference between liberals and conservatives: A conservative wants to leave you alone and let you figure it out while a liberal doesn't think that you are smart enough to figure it out, therefore they will figure it out for you.

Apparently, your commander in chief thinks that the BCS system is wrong and wants to involve itself in fixing it.

While I will gladly debate the merits of the BCS system vs. a playoff, the fact that the President of the United States and his administration want to involve themselves in fixing it is a boondoggle of epic proportions.  It sounds like an episode of "The West Wing" where faced with eroding popularity numbers in the South and West, Josh and Toby cook a scheme to fix college football to curry favor with voters in Utah.

While I admire the President's love of sports, I am convinced that surely there are other projects that are more worth his time than college football.  The economy comes to mind as does healthcare, wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and illegal immigration.  If all of these issues are solved, then the President might have some room on his plate for fashioning a just way to determine a national college football champion.

I know I get a little crazy every time politicians involve themselves in sports (you know who you are Orrin Hatch, Arlen Spector and Henry Waxman) but the fact is sports is not an area where the President or congress should involve themselves except for having a rooting interest.

They've done a fine job screwing up the country and the economy, they don't need to mess with sports.
