You Are All Enabling Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods "news conference" is a car wreck of epidemic proportion. It's transcended sports to become an item on the entertainment channels and sadly, the news channels. Am I the only one smart enough to realize that this man is a golfer who slept with women other than his wife? Move along, move along, nothing to see here.
Yet, Katie, Matt and George all think this is a story. The last time I checked, Tiger Woods was not an elected official. He did not commit any crimes. He did not defraud anyone in a Ponzi scheme. He paid his taxes. He is not seeking asylum in Canada. He is not a religious official who has ministered to his flock in un-Christian ways (you know who you are, Ted Haggard and Jimmy Swaggart.) He is a man who makes money by hitting a golf ball. He is of no social relevance whatsoever. Yet, he is given the same amount of coverage (probably more) than Mark Sanford or John Edwards, who not only had their affairs but may have used your money to do it. THAT'S news. That's relevant.
The purpose of my comments today is not to acknowledge Tiger's "news conference" but to shame each and everyone of you into realizing that this is a wasted exercise. Do you really care what he says? Will it change your opinion of him? Should you even have an opinion of him? You do understand that today's statement is just the tip of an iceberg cooked up by public relations people to insure that people still help his foundation and eventually hire him to endorse their products. He's not defending Tiger the man, he's defending Tiger the brand. He's Toyota, asking you to still buy cars despite the bad brakes and the sticky accelerators.
And you eat it up like it is candy. Please, get a life.
