Quickshots: Bears Brown Out A Bad Move

  • I agree with everyone who thinks the Chicago Bears dumping Alex Brown is a bad idea.  While Julius Peppers brings some much needed push to one side of the line, the other side of the line will be manned by either a converted tackle or a guy who had a big rookie season and then fell off the face of the earth.  Alex Brown is a great team player, has great work ethic and does his job every game.  I hope he winds up with Green Bay and tortures the Bears for years to come.  Honestly, if Lovie Smith is trying to save himself this year, releasing Alex Brown isn't the answer.
  • There's two things you can do when you take over a radio station.  You can keep things as they are, make a few slight adjustments and continue to grow it or you can kick over all the tables and chairs and rebuild it in your own image.  Randy Michaels, the CEO at Tribune is a guy who specializes in the latter.  The problem is that Sports Central was a great connection to the Cubs and a reinforcement of their sports brand.  Dumping it for a convict makes no sense in my opinion.  The truth is, under the new regime, WGN has taken quite a hit already.  Don't you love it when big time guys come to Chicago and think they understand it?  I see both the upside and the downside and I think there is more downside.
  • The blind lead the blind.  There is no modern sports commissioner as bad as Gary Bettman.
  • I think the guy who will get the short end of the White Sox roster straw is Alejandro De Aza.  There just aren't enough spots for five outfielders, even though you could dump Jayson Nix and let Omar Vizquel be your utility guy. We'll see, but with no options left, they have to keep Sergio Santos or that will bite them. (35th Street Review)
  • Andrew's 2010 White Sox preview.  Ours will be out next Sunday.
  • Urban Meyer is still scrambling to put out the unnecessary media fire he started.  Don't chew out reporters in public coach, it only leads to more ganging up on you. (Sports By Brooks)
  • Why is it whenever a coach gets in trouble it's for reasons other than the fact he was running a lousy program?
  • Warren Sapp may have been falsely accused by a bimbette of beating her up.  At least that's what the cops think.  I also heard an interesting discussion about Big Ben on local radio last night and the host couldn't figure out why Ben hadn't been disciplined yet.  Probably because he may be in the clear.  Ben may lack judgment, but it looks like these women want the Benjamins and not Ben.
  • Erin Andrews and her partner on DWTS may be dancing horizontally as well as vertically
  • Congrats to Butler.  Was that Norman Dale in the front row?
