New Faces End Canadian Losing Streak

The last time the White Sox won in Canada, Jerry Owens was playing center field and Tad Iguchi had two RBIs.  Andruw Jones and Mark Teahen weren't on the 2007 team, so being new, they just went about their business, giving the White Sox a hard earned 8-7 eleven inning win in Toronto Monday night.

The Good:
  • Teahen with a single, a triple, a home run a stolen base and three RBI.  Teahen's triple in the eleventh scored pinch runner Omar Vizquel from first for the game winner. In last night's game, the part of Joe Crede was played by Mark Teahen.
  • Andruw Jones with two home runs.  So much for missing Jim Thome.  Jones embodies what Ozzie Guillen wants on this team: Players who can hit, play defense and be used in a variety of ways.  Thome was one dimensional, Jones is multifaceted.
  • Three more hits for Alex Rios despite the less than warm welcome he received.  Are Toronto fans classless?  Not as classless as Cleveland fans who booed Jim Thome.  How could anyone boo Jim Thome?
  • Sergio Santos, J.J. Putz and Matt Thornton throwing gas, gas, gas.
  • 4 stolen bases.  When was the last time that happened?  And it's not just the rabbits, either.
The Bad:
  • Alexi Ramirez struggling in the early season and being replaced by pinch hitter Mark Kotsay in the eleventh. He's hitting only .154 and looking lost at the plate.
  • Bobby Jenks adding excitement to the game with two walks before putting out the fire to earn the save and end the game.  Someday, I wish he would try three up, three down just to see what it would be like.
  • Randy Williams walking in the go ahead run in the bottom of the sixth, although, in fairness,  he may have not been completely warmed up yet.
  • John Buck continues to kill the White Sox
The Ugly:
  • Jake Peavy.  Elite pitchers are supposed to hold two run leads, yet Peavy kept giving back as fast as the Blue Jays would give up.  Seven runs, three walks, two strikeouts and two bombs is not kind the stats you'd expect from a guy who is supposed to be an ace.  This was in Toronto, which is a pitcher's park, so you can't use the U.S. Cellular excuse this time.  Or the cold weather excuse.  One more outing like this and I'll be concerned.
  • Q and Paulie left nine men on base between them last night.  Quentin looked like he was pressing too hard.  Overall, the Sox left 21 men on base last night.
