Quickshots: Before You Bury Freddie, Read This

  • Sure Freddie Garcia was less than stellar last night, but before you volunteer to drop him off at the airport where you will pick up Daniel Hudson, realize it wasn't totally Freddie's fault last night.  Alexi Ramirez absolutely needs to remove him head from his backside.  Two bad throws in the game last night didn't help his pitcher not to mention the five guys Q and Paulie left on base last night.  Freddie is going to need run and defensive support if he is going to be successful.  You won't see him pitching a whole lot of 1-0 games.  It's too early to give up on him.  We'll see how things look in June and then make knee jerk decisions.
  • Wow! So much for the love affair with Big Papi.
  • I can just hear the Chairman now: "I paid for that damn thing and we're going to use it!"  Seriously, if the Sox do not have a huge Nancy Faust day sometime this year, they are missing the boat.  Nancy has been the most beloved Sox employee since the day Harry left.
  • Another guy in trouble is Alfonso Soriano .  He's owed $81 million over the next five years whether he's dropping balls in left, striking out or living on a beach in Antigua. No way the Cubs eat his contract and no way the Cubs can unload him without losing about $60 million.  it's okay.  Given his track record, he'll be on the DL by Memorial Day. BTW, Cub fans, your flavor of the month Tyler Colvin is hitting a robust .100, so he obviously is not the answer right now either.
  • I agree with the author of this post 100% .  I think honoring Jackie Robinson is great, but let's keep it in perspective. (The Big Lead)
  • It will be interesting to see what happens to Big Ben .  The problem is, he wasn't charged with a crime, which makes it hearsay. Suspending a player on hearsay is risky.  If the NFL players union had backbone, they'd see that and aggressively fight whatever suspension is doled out. Also, if the lead takes action in this incident, it leaves Big Ben wide open to lose his suit against the bimbette from Lake Tahoe.  I'm thinking this one won't go down easy.  Or shouldn't.  One thing is clear: My dogs are smarter than Big Ben.  How you get yourself in a situation like that twice (maybe three times according to some reports) is a huge mystery.
  • The Blackhawks are one of the favorites to win Lord Stanley's Cup, but don't look past Nashville.  Several first game upsets have a couple of teams scratching their heads, like Montreal winning in OT over New Jersey last night.  Factor into that Joel Quenneville has taken some really good teams into the playoffs never to get out of the conference finals.  Think of him as Doug Collins with a wicked mustache.
  • Jim Nantz was asked a question .  He gave an answer.  Get over yourselves, all of you.
  • Although we have record numbers of unemployment, cars that will take off on their own and crash into things, terrorists trying to get their hands on uranium, a war in the middle east and health care jammed down our throat, your U.S. Congress is far busier working on things that really matter to the average American .  Please, vote these knuckleheads out of office, especially Henry Waxman, who continues to waste your hard earned tax dollars on probing baseball. Damn it, they're liberals and liberals always know what's best because they are the smartest guys in the room.  Just ask them.
