Quickshots: A Tale Of Two Ballclubs
- Here's what I saw during the 4½ innings I stayed awake during last night's 12-0 White Sox disaster: One team that took advantage of the situation and one that didn't. The Sox had chances to go up early, but couldn't get the timely hit when they needed it. The Rays dinked and dunked their way into the lead and kept piling it on. This is so 2008.
- The first thing George McCaskey should do is have lunch with Rocky Wirtz.
- If A.J. is yapping, it means he isn't focused on his play as much as he is his contract. Ozzie may be a lot of things, but stupid isn't one of them.
- Sounds to me like someone is campaigning for Lou Piniella's job. Is Alfanso Soriano so dense he doesn't know Brenly is on TV?
- Add deadbeat to the list of things you can call Milton Bradley .
- Take a volatile, failing starter out of the rotation and put him in a position where he's likely to be even less successful? And pay $17.9 million a year for the privilege? That's so Cub.
- The Lovie Smith Farewell Tour opens at Soldier Field against the Lions . If the Bears lose that one, Lovie may not make it through the season. BTW, if you live in the Milwaukee area, there are potentially eleven Bears games you will most likely get to see and one additional if you have NFL Network. Four game directly conflict with the Packers on Fox and will not be shown in the area.
- ESPN still values Chris Berman . As it should be. Sure, his act jumped the shark a few years ago, but he's the link back to the beginning and people who have been with ESPN since the old days take comfort in seeing him. As obnoxious as Berman is perceived to be, he's certainly not Stuart Scott or anyone of several "look at me, look at me" types who dominate that network.
- The NFL draft is on tonight , not that Bears fans have to worry about it. Barring an earth shattering trade, the Bears are relegated to the third round, which doesn't go until tomorrow night. Personally, I preferred the Saturday-Sunday daytime coverage as it is more conducive to my schedule and gets me out of cutting the grass.
- Here's a sure sign it must be spring: Brett Favre is playing with people's heads again.
- If ever there were a night to have a sportsgasam, this is it. The White Sox , Blackhawks , the minor league baseball team , the NBA team are all in play as is the NFL draft. So many choices, so little time. I think there will be an outbreak of thumb strain tomorrow.
