Old Man Wants Ozzie To Pull Pitchers Faster, Kids Off Lawn
I was listening to the White Sox pre-game show tonight on WSCR and had to laugh when some old guy (who must have been in his seventies) call Ranger Rongey and rip Ozzie for not pulling Mark Buehrle out after the seventh inning last night. Of course, this is a moot point if Buehrle had gotten through the eighth, but we know what happened there.Anyway, the dude continued to press his point even after Ranger had mentioned that Buehrle had pitched a nice game and his pitch count was only around eighties. The old man must be a Cubs fan because he insisted that eighty pitches was enough. It may be in the National League where you have to pinch hit for the pitcher in the seventh, but in the good ol' AL, you can get at least a hundred pitches out of a pitcher provided he is throwing well.
So, if it were up to this guy, he would have pulled Buehrle out after the seventh period. Me? I would have told him that first sign of trouble, we're going to the pen. You got three more hitters.
The old guy seemed shocked when Ranger brought up the fact Don Cooper had a lot to say about the decision as well.
I really admire Ranger. As aggravated as you can tell he was getting with the guy, and I've walked a mile in his shoes (John from Brentwood, you know who you are) Ranger was professional and polite. He probably punched a wall during the next commercial break.
It never ceases to amaze me how many morons are among us.
