Quickshots: Do You Know The Way To San Jose?

  • It's Burt Bacharach's birthday, so sue me over the title.  This Blackhawks team will drive you nuts.  One day looking like they did in games one and five and then last night looking like world beaters .  It helps when your opponent has several defensemen out.  They won't be that lucky against San Jose.  They better tighten it down the next few days.
  • I'm wondering who Hawk fans would like to see as a Lord Stanley's Cup finals opponent if the Hawks get that far.  Pittsburgh? Revenge for 1992.  But if you are old and old school like me, you are rooting like crazy for Montreal to beat the Penguins and then win in the East.  I want payback for 1971 and 1973 when the Canadians derailed my cup dreams. F'in Henri Richard! No matter who the Hawks would play, the road to the finals goes through San Jose as they are clearly the best team left.
  • Last night's White Sox win in Minnesota was satisfying on lots of levels.  Freddie Garcia pitched well.  A.J. Pierzynski had a big hit and so did Alexi Ramirez.  And the much maligned (perhaps wrongly) Bobby Jenks came in and closed the Twins out in the ninth.  Now if the Savior and Q can get out of neutral, this team might go on a run.
  • Jim Thome should run for office after he retires. He always says the right thing .
  • I wrote it the other day, but Bobby Jenks said it a lot better and crudely than I could...lighten up and chill out people .  It's only May. Good to see the fire in his ample belly.
  • Speaking of ample bellies, the Sox have hired Jerry Krause to direct their Latin scouting efforts .  It's an excellent move.  Krause is an accomplished baseball scout and was instrumental in the Sox acquiring Ozzie Guillen from San Diego after the 1984 season. Bulls fans, get over it.  Krause's existence, however grotesque to you, brings in prospects.  The White Sox want him on that wall, they need him on that wall.
  • Proof again anyone can do it, Frank Thomas will be filling in for Steve Stone this weekend. I think Frank hasn't been out of the game long enough to be objective.  Personally, I think Robin Ventura would have been a better choice or maybe even a three man booth. (Midwest Sports Fans)
  • It seems like the man the Bulls want to hitch their wagon to is former New jersey coach Lawrence Frank .  Didn't he start out the season 0-16?  As our hero and role model would say "that is so Bulls."
  • Despite his being directly responsible for the ouster of former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach, ESPN has cleared Craig James to do Big 12 games . (Sports By Brooks)
  • Speaking of ESPN, they would like Erin Andrew's stalker to pay them $300,000 for time, trouble and extra personnel involved in her protection.Personally, I think it is a PR scam.  As distasteful as the peeping business was, it's been a boon to both the network and Andrews.  If she wins on "Dancing With the Stars", then we'll all know the fix is in.  I think Disney has big plans for her beyond the sidelines on ESPN.
  • A school in Washington DC has hired a female football coach .  Apparently, they are big fans of the movie "Wildcats."
